Exam Beard

Posted by Sam Smith

Over the past three weeks I have been in the deepest depths of revision.  When I started my revision I realised that I needed to get creative in order to motivate myself and it was one a rainy day in my solitude of deep revision,  that a great idea came to me – I should grow an exam beard.

Now, I know what you’re thinking “what makes a beard an exam beard?”.  It’s all about the intentions of said beard. Some men grow beards for proof of masculinity, other men grow beards to appeal to the opposite sex. I have decided to grow a beard purely to intimidate other students when I get into the exam hall. Let me explain my thought process:

I am thinking that when other students look at me and my beard, they will surely think “wow, Sam’s been revising so much he hasn’t even had time to shave”, and thus they shall be intimidated because the exam beard is a reflection of the time spent accumulating knowledge. I have to be honest though, I’ve had doubts along the journey…

Week one was a vulnerable week of mine. There was the awkward itchy stage when I just wanted to sink my whole head into a bowel of steamy water. Week two brought with it healthy stubble and a great boost to my ego. Now week three has arrived and the beard has taken a sudden turn towards gingerness and I’m not sure how I feel about that. I’ve had some great support throughout the beard process. In my moments of weakness I’ve had perfectly timed encouragement from other members of the male species. We are united.

Here it is in all it’s glory…Exam Beard

Exams are nearly over and the beard shall soon be gone. It’s been a great few weeks getting to know the follicles of my face, but I won’t miss them. So long, beard.
