Third year is proving to be very stressful, god forbid I have a decent nights sleep after a day of developing my dissertation. So I thought it was important to get away for a while. Before I got busy with my exams and getting into uni I used to visit my Granddad in Surrey at least once a year, but naughty me I hadn’t been for 3 years. So when I found out that I was going to be having 5 weeks off over Christmas I decided to make the drive up to see him with my boyfriend. There was a lot of nostalgia, I’ve been going there since I was 10. We spent most of our time taking it easy and being very laid back. There is a lovely pond where Granddad lives and we spent most of our days feeding the ducks and squirrels. They take the food straight from your hand! They will bite if you’re faking though, not very nice when you’ve run out of nuts lol. Another thing we just had to do whilst we were there was head into London. I’ve wanted to see Wicked for as long as I can remember but never got round to it. This year as a treat to myself (It’s important to treat yourself when you’ve been doing a lot of work, good incentive for motivation) I decided to bite the bullet and book tickets. It was incredible – I highly recommend going to see it if you are a fan of the Wizard of Oz or even just musicals or theater, its a masterpiece. Before the performance we decided to visit Harrods, quite the experience! It was crazy busy with lots of people getting their Christmas shopping done. It was like stepping into a whole other world, people spending thousands of pounds all in one room – one gentlemen spent £160 on gift wrapping. It was very surreal, but did the trick! The whole time we were there I never once felt stressed about uni or the future or any of those horrible things that come along with adulthood. Something to remember when you are at uni is that you are undertaking a very overwhelming task getting your degree! It’s okay to need to take a break or treat yourself during stressful terms, or lets face it, the majority of time at uni. A refresher break is always necessary in life to enable you to recharge. I’ve probably treated myself far too much over this Christmas period, but I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of things come January 16th when I get back to lectures!
