A couple of months ago I was looking for possible houses and flats to live in for my second year. I noticed that for some the properties wanted rent payment to start in September whilst others wanted half or full rent to be paid over summer. After a few months of being in Cardiff and enjoying the city so much, I decided that I would stay here over the summer as there is a wider variety of jobs and work experience than back at home. When it came to house hunting this made it easier to decide to go with the flat with summer rent so that I would have somewhere to live over the two months.
Although my summer accommodation planned out quite well, there are a lot of people I’ve spoken to who also want to stay in Cardiff over summer to work but didn’t know of anywhere they could stay. So, I decided to research the different possibilities for students who want to stay in Cardiff over the summer break.
I found that student residencies such as Senghennydd Court and Cartwright offer summer residence which can be applied for before starting university or later. However; if you do decide to go with this choice it is best to organise earlier rather than later as you need to book accommodation. These summer residencies only self-catered but they come with amenities such as cutlery, crockery, pots, pans and an ironing board. The price is also very affordable.
However; if you don’t want to stay in student halls over summer then it is also a good idea to ask your housing agency if it is possible to move in over the summer. This may require full rent but if you would prefer being in your new place then it’s worth asking.
